The term exclusion, in wildlife control, refers to the application of a physical barrier that will keep out the specific species of animal that is causing the conflict. The means to achieve this end can take many forms, depending on the particular species involved, the type and intensity of the conflict, and the unique conditions inherent in each new job. Oftentimes, exclusion will involve the installation of one-way doors that will allow the target animal to leave but prevent re-entry. This method of conflict resolution can be more effective for some species than others and can be limited to certain time periods during the year. Birthing times, weather conditions, species involved, and condition of a structure all must be considered before a one-way door is used. Sometimes the animals raising concern are known to be absent from the area to be excluded and the physical barrier can simply be installed.
